FRANCISCAN SWEEPS TENNIS TOP HONORS; CONRAD NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Franciscan University senior Madelyn Conrad is the 2019 AMCC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Conrad had a dominant season in AMCC conference play this year. In #1 AMCC singles she was 5-0 while outscoring opponents 60-11. She followed that up by being nearly perfect in #1 AMCC doubles with teammate Ana Victoria Haddad. They posted a 5-0 record while having a 40-4 edge over the opposition. Conrad overall on the fall season is 6-2 in #1 singles and 5-2 in #1 doubles. Conrad was forced to retire in a non-conference singles match against Baldwin Wallace due to an ankle injury. Conrad missed three conference matches, but she was able to return against Mount Aloysius to defeat the Mounties' top singles player which helped the Lady Barons clinch the #1 seed in the AMCC Championship.

Baron freshman Estelle Leon has been named the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. Leon introduced herself to AMCC play this year in a big way. She had an undefeated record of 16-0 in AMCC competitions between #2 singles, #3 singles, #2 doubles and #3 doubles. She was 3-0 in AMCC #2 singles and 5-0 in conference #3 singles while having a 96-14 edge over her opponents. She was 3-0 while playing in AMCC #2 doubles and 5-0 in #3 doubles all while playing alongside fellow freshman Haley Davinsizer. They outscored conference foes 64-7 in their eight victories. Leon only dropped two singles matches all year, each being in non-conference and each going into a tie breaker 3rd set. Leon plans to take her talents to the hardwood this winter as she will be joining the Lady Barons basketball team.

Coach of the Year honors goes to Franciscan head coach Scott Greve, as he led the Barons to a perfect 8-0 record in conference play and their fourth consecutive conference title.
