PITT-GREENSBURG SETS SIGHTS  ON FIRST-EVER AMCC WOMEN'S TENNIS TITLE

The AMCC women's tennis tournament takes to the courts on Saturday with some notable "firsts."

Pitt-Greensburg enters the tennis tournament as the top seed for the first time in program history, with hopes of capturing their first conference title as well. However, they will have to do it with traditional powerhouse Penn St. Behrend right on their heels, as the Lions have won 12 conference championships and enter the tournament as the #2 seed.

UPG is undefeated in conference play with a 7-0 AMCC record. 2014 AMCC Player of the Year, senior Shayla Landman, leads the conference at the No. 1 singles position with an 8-1 record, while No. 5 singles player, sophomore Amanda Jepsen, is 9-0.  The Bobcats are also led by No. 2 doubles partners, sophomore Alexandra Clahrety and junior Sydney Geary, who are at the head of the conference with an 8-1 record.

#2 Penn St. Behrend, coming in with a 7-1 record, boasts some impressive numbers, as well. Senior Malinda Miller, playing the No. 6 singles spot, leads all conference singles players with a 10-0 record. No. 2 singles player, Alexandra Laffey, comes in with an 11-1 record. No. 3 doubles partners, sophomore Celeste Bentley and freshman Kelly Miller, lead all conference doubles partners with a 9-0 record.

2014 AMCC Champion, Franciscan University, enters the tournament as the #3 seed with a 5-2 record. At No. 3 singles, freshman Julia Razook has a 6-2 record, while No. 4 singles junior Claire Haddad comes in with a 7-1 record. No. 2 doubles partners, senior Renata Crespo and sophomore Maggie Vander Woude, rank second in the conference in that category with a 7-1 record. 

#4 Penn St. Altoona, 4-4 in the AMCC, is led by junior Michelle Colucci at the No. 1 singles spot with an 8-3 record, while 2014 Newcomer of the Year, sophomore Regina Sanchez, has a 9-2 record at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. 

Mt. Aloysius College, also with a 4-4 record, is the #5 seed and is led by freshman Kayla Makin, who comes in with a 6-0 record. Makin and doubles partner, freshman Emily Goldyn, lead the Mounties at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 3-0 record.

Rounding out the tournament is #6 Medaille College with a 3-5 record. The Mavericks, who are making their conference post-season debut, are led by current AMCC Player of the Week, junior Liz Barrett who has posted a 5-4 record at No. 1 singles. She teamed up with freshman Colleen Voigt at No. 1 doubles, finishing the regular season with a 3-1 record. 

First round matches will take place on Saturday, October 10, with #6 Medaille at #3 Franciscan and #5 Mt. Aloysius at #4 Penn St. Altoona. #1 Pitt-Greensburg and #2 Penn St. Behrend will receive first round byes.
