AMCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME OF THE WEEK - WEEK OF JANUARY 26

Women's Basketball Game of the Week: Penn St. Behrend at Penn St. Altoona (January 31, 1:00 PM)

These Penn St. system siblings are on the rise in conference play, and both would like to earn this win to gain better footing on the AMCC playoff ladder.  Altoona took the first meeting from Behrend when they traveled to Erie on December 13, 66-55, and now they will look to do it again on their home court.

Penn St. Behrend has won three of their last four games. The Lions recorded double-digit victories over three conference schools last week. Senior guard Ally Burke currently leads the team and the league with 20.7 points per game and is closing in on 1,000 points, sitting at 883 career points. Behrend’s other senior, Brittany Kiger, has been working hard on the boards. She is leading the team with 8.8 rebounds per game. She recently pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds in the win over Hilbert. The Lions are looking to avenge an 11-point loss to Altoona from December 13.

Penn State Altoona comes into Saturday’s matchup riding a wave of success. Entering the week of January 26, the Lady Lions had won five of their past six games, including four conference wins during that span. The team has been led by the excellent play of senior forward Moira Corrigan, who started the week ranked first in the AMCC in rebounds per game (14.5) and fourth in points per game (15.0). Sophomores Madison Mossellem and Devin Stessney have also been key components for the Lady Lions, with Mossellem averaging 13.0 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 4.8 assists per game and Stessney adding 12.0 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. With six AMCC wins at the start of the week, Penn State Altoona women’s basketball appears poised to return to the conference playoffs for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.
