BEHREND SOFTBALL CAPTURES 11TH AMCC CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

The No. 1 Penn State Behrend softball team defeated No. 3 Mount Aloysius College 5-2 to capture the 2024 AMCC Championship on Saturday morning.

Behrend got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, as Emi Curcio had a sacrifice fly to score Sierra Williams to make it 1-0 in the first.

In the third inning, Maria Jones singled to left field and Meghan Petitte placed a bunt down and advanced to second on the throw. Jocelyn McNany came to the plate and on the first pitch hit a longball to left center to score three for a 4-0 lead. 

In the fourth, Alexia Brown smacked her first collegiate triple as the leadoff hitter, giving the Lions their 30th triple of the season and putting them in first in NCAA Division III statistics. Brown came home on a sacrifice fly by Britney Shaw.

The Mounties scored their pair of runs in the fifth and it was the only inning where the Lions did not get a runner on base. 

Abby Tingley retired all three batters in five of the seven innings. The sophomore pitcher struck out three in the complete game for her 18th win of the season.

The Lions await the NCAA Division III selection show on Monday at 11 a.m.
