MOUNTIES FALL IN FIRST NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME

The Mount Aloysius College softball team played in its first NCAA tournament game in program history on Friday. Despite collecting 10 hits in the game the Mounties lost the contest 6-1.

The Mountie offense started out quick as they collected three hits in the first inning, but were unable to push across any runs due to a double play early in the inning. St. Mary's, the host and #1 seed took advantage of the momentum and put up three runs on a two run home run and two-out RBI double.

Mount Aloysius continued to hit through the early innings, collecting four more hits, but were not able to string any together to score. They were only able to score in the 6th, after St. Mary's put up three runs the half inning before. Lydia DeFazio hit a one out double down the left field line and would score two batters later on a Brianna Benscoter single to right center field.

The Mounties spread out their hits in the game, with eight different players registering at least one hit. Centerfielder Courtney Link and Pitcher Hannah Ruby were the only players with multiple hits, as they both collected two. Hannah Ruby went five innings for the Mounties in the circle, she allowed six runs, three earned off of nine hits and two walks. Kara Pisczek pitched a scoreless frame for the Mounties in the 6th.

The Mounties will play in an elimination game on Saturday scheduled for 1:30. They will Play Case Western Reserve University to keep their season alive. Links for Livestats and Live Video can be found on the home page and team schedule page.
