AMCC SOFTBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: BEHREND @ ALTOONA

Penn State Altoona (15-13, 10-2 AMCC) hosts a battle of the top two teams in the AMCC softball standings this Saturday, April 22, when the Lady Lions welcome Penn State Behrend (19-11, 11-1 AMCC) to campus for a big doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM at Stewart Athletic Field.

The Behrend Lions are on a 13 game-winning streak after sweeping Medaille on Tuesday afternoon. Senior outfielder Allania Banta, the current AMCC Player of the Week, hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to help the Lions take game one 6-4. Behrend then posted a 13-0 decision in game two. Banta continues to lead the league in home runs with five on the season. Senior hurler Rachel Miller is one win away from moving into second place on the all-time wins list.

The Altoona Lady Lions are led by senior pitcher Kate Burge, who leads the AMCC in appearances (20), starts (15), shutouts (5), and innings pitched (124). She is also second in the conference in wins (12), complete games (12), and strikeouts (95), as well as third in earned run average (1.58). At the plate, Penn State Altoona features a trio of .300+ hitters: sophomore shortstop Haley Giedroc, freshman third baseman Abby Showers, and sophomore outfielder Kelsey Bristol. Giedroc is currently seventh in the AMCC in batting average (.398) and eighth in hits (33), Showers is 10th in batting average (.386), and Bristol is 29th in batting average (.325). Penn State Altoona has also relied on strong defense, ranking first in the AMCC in fielding percentage (.962) while committing a league-low 29 errors.
