ALTOONA LIONS DEFEATED IN ECAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL

No. 6 Penn State Altoona softball was eliminated from the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon, getting shut out 3-0 by No. 2 Stockton University in the tournament's semifinal round at Arcadia University's Blankley Field.

Penn State Altoona (18-18) got good pitching and defense, but the team's offense was limited to just three baserunners on the day.

Senior Kate Burge pitched a complete game in the loss. The senior went six innings, allowing six hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out six batters.

Sophomore OF/C Kelsey Bristol led her team at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Freshman C Jessica Willits was 1-for-2.

Stockton (26-20-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ashley Lobell's RBI single put the first run of the game on the scoreboard for the Ospreys, and Casey Schieda's groundout to shortstop one batter later brought home Lobell.

In the fifth, Stockton added to its run total when Ashley Cosenzo's double to left drove in Carli Shaw to make it 3-0.

Stockton now advances to play for the ECAC Tournament championship later today against No. 1 Arcadia. With the loss, the Penn State Altoona softball team's season is over.
