AMCC SOFTBALL: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS

The AMCC is embarking on its 20th anniversary during the 2016-17 academic year. Since 1997 there have been many outstanding teams and individual student-athletes who have risen to the top of their sports.  We are honored to recognize and highlight some of those accomplishments throughout this anniversary year.

Over the past 20 years, Penn State Behrend has won a conference-best seven softball championships, including back-to-back titles the past two seasons.

The Behrend Lions' Julie Koman is the only player to earn both Player and Pitcher of the Year honors in the same year (2009), as well as also being named Player of the Year in 2006. Koman was named to the AMCC first team all-conference team four years in row, and was voted the 2009 AMCC Player of the Year. In 2006, she was named both AMCC Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year.  Koman finished the regular season with a 16-1 record and led the Behrend Lions to the NCAA Division III tournament.

D'Youville College 2016 graduate Kalie McHenry was one of the most dominant pitchers to come out of the AMCC, as she is the only three-time pitcher of the year (2014, 2015, 2016) in conference history. During her senior year, McHenry set career-highs in innings pitched (199.1), complete games (28), strikeouts (180), games started (28) and games (32), while tying her career-high in wins (21). McHenry led the AMCC in wins (23), strikeouts (203), innings pitched (229.1) and complete games (32), while finishing third in ERA (1.58) and posted four shutouts.

Fellow D'Youville alum, Hannah Norton, was a two-time pitcher of the year in 2011 and 2012.  Norton racked up 16 wins in 2011, which was the best in the conference, and also ranked first in strikeouts (143) and third in ERA (2.00). In 2012, she pitched 22 games with a 2.25 ERA, second in the AMCC. Her 10 wins were second in the conference while she was fourth in innings pitched (115.0) and was third in strikeouts (95).

Mount Aloysius College's Jalisa Westover picked up player of the year honors in 2012 and 2014. Westover had a .451 batting average and led the AMCC with 55 RBI in 2012. Two seasons later, in 2014, she batted .422 and was a key component in the Mounties' run to a runner-up finish in the AMCC tournament.  She led the league in doubles (16) and hits (54) and ranked second in RBI (37).

Behrend's Mandy Bodnor was the first softball player in conference history to earn back-to-back Player of the Year honors (1999 and 2000). As a freshman, she was named AMCC Newcomer of the Year and was a four-time all-conference selection, leading her team to the program's first-ever AMCC title in 1999. Bodnor remains at the top of the list in the Behrend career record book in homeruns (26), RBIs (157), assists (376) and complete games (68). At the time of graduation, she ranked first in wins (43), appearances (94) and innings pitched (515.3) and has only dropped one spot since.

We are proud to honor the complete line-up of AMCC Softball Players and Pitchers of the Year from 1997-2016:
