BEHREND SOFTBALL HEADS TO ST. JOHN FISHER FOR NCAA REGIONAL

The Penn State Behrend softball team will travel to Rochester, NY for a three-team NCAA Regional hosted by St. John Fisher on May 13-15. The Lions (27-11) will face the Cardinals (33-10) in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m.

The Lions, who are the No. 3 seed, will then play No. 2 University of Rochester (26-21) in a second game on Friday beginning 30 minutes following the first contest. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students, $2 children under 12 and children under two are free.

St. John Fisher received at at-large bid and earned the rights to host the three-team double elimination tournament. This is the seventh time in the program's 33-year history that Fisher has advanced to the national tournament and the sixth time in the last nine years. 

Behrend won its seventh Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship on Sunday and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history. The Yellowjackets received the Liberty League's automatic bid by sweeping Skidmore in the conference championships.

The winner of the weekend will advance to the Super Regionals, May 20-21.

There are 62 teams that are competing in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. There are 15 four-team regional sites and two three-team regionals. Forty-three conferences received automatic qualification (Pool A). One institution was selected from Pool B, which includes independent institutions and institutions from conferences that do not meet the automatic qualification criteria. The 18 remaining teams were selected on an at-large basis from automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining institutions in Pool B.
