D'YOUVILLE, HILBERT RUN AT LEHIGH'S PAUL SHORT INVITATIONAL

D'Youville College and Hilbert College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Lehigh University Paul Short Run on Saturday, October 1.

With over 275 collegiate teams competing, Lehigh broke the field up into three different color races. The Hawks and Spartans were both slotted to race in the White Division against some of the strongest Division III cross country programs on the east coast.

Megan Lee, a first-year runner at Hilbert after transferring from Canisius College and their cross country program, led the Hilbert women's team around the 6K Goodman cross country course.  Lee, running in the program's first 6K race this fall, crossed the line with a 24:16 time, good for 75th place. D'Youville freshman Kathryn Piraino led the Spartans with a 178th place finish after crossing the finish line in 26:30.

Hilbert sophomore Adam Droz, his second time competing at the Paul Short Run, dropped 2:30 from his time a year ago and set a new personal best time of 30:04 to claim the 144 place. D'Youville freshman Patrick Leslie was right behind Droz, finishing in 30:08 to take 146th place.

The D'Youville men finished with 872 points in 32nd place, while Hilbert finished with 915 points in 33rd place. On the women's side, D'Youville collected 1,056 points to finish in 38th place, and Hilbert 1,065 points to finish in 39th place.

SUNY Cortland was the only men's team to stay under 100 points as they placed two runners in the top four.  Cortland (87) was 39 points ahead of Mary Washington (126) and well ahead of Gettysburg.  Ben Taber (Gettysburg) was the first to finish in 25:39 with a 5:10 average mile time.

Gettysburg, on the women's side, was the only team to place two runners in the top 10, but they did not win the women's race.  Kutztown (139) finished nine points ahead of Trinity (148) and they both placed 30+ points faster than Gettysburg (174).  Jamie Pacilio (Muhlenberg) broke the women's tape in 21:44 with a 5:49 average mile time.
