MEN'S TRACK & FIELD PREPS FOR INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

The United East Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet will take place on Monday, February 26 with the AMCC sending three member schools to participate as affiliates. Alfred State College, Carlow University, and Penn State Behrend will all travel to Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex (Landover, MD) for the 2024 champioship meet.

The Alfred State track teams have been setting new school records every meet weekend this year. The Pioneers' Greg Raymond is an AARTFC in the weight throw, while sophomore Aden Alexander is an AARTFC qualifier in the triple jump. Freshman Mekhi Christensen became an AARTFC qualifier last weekend in the 60-meter dash while setting a new school record. The Pioneers also have freshman Mamadou Barry and junior Eddie Scroxton in the mid-distance events as they consistently finish in the top-10 of their event,

The Carlow men’s team finished 10th of 12 teams last season at the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Celtics returned just three of the athletes from last season’s roster but have already seen improvement. Sophomore Quincy Fana earned Carlow its first AMCC Athlete of the Week honor, and the Celtics have been landing top-10 marks in several events. On the track, Carlow is led by senior Bryan Pan, and in the field sophomore Shajit Pokwal and newcomer Sangay Gurung have been recording top marks for the Celtics.

The Behrend men’s indoor track & field team has competed in seven meets prior to the United East Championship. On February 10 at the SPIRE Indoor Games, the 4x4 relay team of Brendan Luce, Jake Walden, Kody Klein, Jake Egizio set new school record with a time of with a time of 3:23.85 to trump the previous record of 3:23.98 that was set during the 2016 season. During this season, four AARTFC qualifying marks were hit by Egizio (60m), Ryan Festa (pole vault), Samuel Hetrick (high jump), Brandon Konieczki (long jump), and the 4000-distance medley relay team of Klein, Walden, Aidan Domencic, and Jason Seevers. At Ashland, Hetrick recorded a first-place finish with a jump of 6-0 ¾ in the high jump, while Konieczki set a new personal best in the 60 dash with a time of 7.17 for fifth place.
