PENN STATE BEHREND CAPTURES MEN'S TENNIS TITLE, NCAA AUTOMATIC BID

Penn State Behrend is the 2022 AMCC men's tennis champions, earning their eighth overall title and first since 2012, defeating Penn State Altoona 5-1.

With the win, the Lions have earned the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III tournament.  Selections, location  and schedule will be announced May 8, with first round competition May 13-15.

Behrend won two doubles matches and three singles to claim the title. The Lions got the first point at No. 1 doubles thanks to Mitchell May and Jonathon Laier. The duo defeated their opponents 8-2 to take the early lead. Mason Harbaugh and Belden Tuttle made it 2-0 with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles before Altoona cut the lead to 2-1 with an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles by Jake Irwin and Kirk Eichenlaub.

Behrend then picked up wins at No. 1, 4 and 6 singles to seal the deal and take home the championship. Max Lu made it 3-1 after posting a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles and Tuttle got his second win of the day at No. 6 singles, blanking his Altoona opponent 6-0, 6-0. Laier registered the final singles win in the top spot, defeating Toth 6-4, 6-2 to make it 5-1.
