FRANCISCAN, BEHREND FAMILIAR FOES IN MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

Top seeded Franciscan University and #2 Penn St. Behrend will face off for the third year in a row for the AMCC men's tennis championship on Sunday.

The five time defending champion Barons advanced to the finals with a 5-0 win over #4 Pitt-Greensburg.  Sophomore Jarek Sulak (#1 singles and #1 doubles with Jarek Sulak) and senior John Gallagher (#3 singles and #2 doubles with Connor Jooste) helped their team to four of the five team points.

Behrend earned their place in championship match with a 5-0 win over #3 Penn St. Altoona.  The Lions got a pair of wins from two-time AMCC Player of the Year Yanique Apgar (#1 singles and #1 doubles with Scott Russell) and Brent McFarland (#4 singles and #2 doubles with Brenden Dollard). Behrend's last title came in 2012.

Franciscan handled Behrend easily in the regular season, sweeping all nine matches en route to a perfect 5-0 record in AMCC competition.

The championship will be played Sunday at 11:30am at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.  The winner will earn the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament in May.
