FRANCISCAN, BEHREND TO MEET FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR IN MEN'S TENNIS FINALE

In a repeat of the 2016 finale, top seed Franciscan University and #2 Penn St. Behrend will square off for the men's tennis title on Sunday.

The Barons will look to defend their title for the fifth straight year and sixth overall, while the Lions will try to reclaim a crown they last wore in 2012.  They fell to Franciscan in the regular season by a 7-2 score.

In the first semifinal, Franciscan (5-0 AMCC, 8-9 overall) made short work of #4 Mount Aloysius College, cruising to a 5-0 decision without dropping a set.  John Gallagher (#2 singles, #1 doubles with Jarek Sulak) and R.J. Watson (#4 singles and #2 doubles with Connor Jooste) earned two points each.

Behrend dispatched #3 Penn St. Altoona by the same 5-0 margin.  Yanique Apgar (#1 singles) and Scott Russell (#2 singles) combined for three of the five team points when they swept their singles matches then joined forces for a win at #1 doubles.

The championship match will begin at 11:30am Sunday at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.  The winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
