FRANCISCAN LOOKS TO THREE-PEAT AS MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONS

Franciscan University (6-5, 5-0 AMCC) heads into the men's tennis championship weekend hoping to claim their third consecutive, and fourth overall, AMCC title.  The Barons have swept all five of their AMCC opponents by a score of 9-0. Junior Zack Quiza, a two-time AMCC Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week, leads the way for the Barons. The #1 singles and doubles player is undefeated in conference play and is currently riding a five-game winning streak in both categories. #2 doubles partners, freshmen John Gallagher and Jarek Sulak,  have gone unbeaten this season with a 9-0 record.

Entering the tournament as the #2 seed is Penn St. Altoona (8-1, 5-1 AMCC), whose only loss this season is to the Barons. The Lions, with six AMCC crowns to their credit, are led by freshman Geoff Zlobinsky and sophomore Adam Hack, who are both 5-1 in conference singles. The pair is also 5-1 at the #1 doubles spot and are also on an eight-game winning streak.

Penn St. Behrend (5-8, 4-2 AMCC) enters the conference championships with a 4-2 record and has solidified the #3 seed.  The Lions are tied with Penn St. Altoona for the most AMCC men's tennis titles in league history. Freshman Matthew Johnson has won three straight matches and has a 3-2 AMCC record.

Rounding out the tournament is #4 seed Pitt-Greensburg (4-5, 3-3 AMCC). Freshman Izzak Fulmer-Moffat leads the Bobcats with a 4-1 AMCC record at the #5 singles spot. Fulmer-Moffat and doubles partner, sophomore Tyler Fox, are 3-2 in doubles play in the #2 spot.  The Bobcats, runners up to Franciscan in the 2014 championship, are aiming for their first ever men's tennis title.

The AMCC men's tennis championships will take place April 18-19 at Club for Life in Monroeville, PA.
