After day one of the Allegheny-Empire Swimming and Diving Championships, Alfred State College leads on the men's side, while Hartwick College sits in first on the women's side.
In the first event of the meet, Penn State Behrend's 200 yard medley team of Glenn Fowkes, Will Perham, Tim Compton, and Anthony Tumino earned a first place finish with a total time of 1:32.88. In second place was Alfred University's team of Will Lamastus, Wade Lamastus, Colby Watkins, and Emmanuel Drappatz clocking in at 1:33.92.
On the women's side in the 200 medley relay, it was Hartwick's foursome of Bree Dy, Elaine Chen, Amanda Wilbur, and Cate Russo coming in first place with a time of 1:50.22. Penn State Behrend's Camryn Watters, Heidi Schwartz, Jadyn Danylko, and Rebecca Krenzer earned a second place finish with a 1:51.36.
In the men's 3m diving event, Alfred State sophomore Conor Compton took home the gold with 601.25 total points. Hartwick's Jack Armstrong was second with 494.30 and Alfred State's Bryan Reichert rounded out the top three with 361.90 points.
The men's 800 yard freestyle relay was next, with Hartwick's team of Bryce Rogers, Nicholas Tirrell, Cameron Drake, and Mikey Schultz finishing in the top spot with a time of 6:59.19. Coming in second place, with a time of 7:04.31, was Penn State Behrend's Tim Compton, Dan Tanaskovic, Jax Abele, and Will Perham.
The women’s 800 yard freestyle relay was the final event on day one, with Nazareth College topping the competition. The foursome of Julie Filipski, Ally Putnam, Ellen Burroughs, and Caroline Coleman finished the race in 7:54.79. The Alfred State team made up of Madison Snayczuk, Alyssa James, Emma Merrick, and Mallory O'Keefe finished in second place with a time of 7:58.08.
The championships will continue Thursday morning with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and diving prelims at 11:30 a.m. The finals on Thursday are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
