ALFRED STATE MEN, WOMEN TOP AMCC TEAMS AFTER DAY 1 OF CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Nazareth College women and the Alfred State College men each sit in first place after day one of the 2023 Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships.

After the events of day one, the Nazareth women have 185 points, Alfred State is second with 132, and Penn State Behrend rounds out the top three with 126.  

After Wednesday's events on the men's side, Alfred State holds down the top spot with 150 points, while Alfred University is second with 118, and Penn State Behrend is third with 112.

In the first event of the evening, the Nazareth women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Isabella Jaskowski, Rebecca Skelley, Abbie Santos, and Amy Barry claimed a first place finish with a time of 1:49.14. In second place was Alfred State’s team of Alyssa James, Mikaela Snayczuk, Gabriela Leite, and Anna Ivery clocking in at 1:49.43.

On the men’s side in the 200 medley relay, it was Alfred State’s foursome of Westin Perry, Stuart Yates, Kellen Fletcher, and Luca Aldewereld coming in first place with a time of 1:31.68. Alfred University’s Will Lamastus, Emiliano Terrazas, Fernando Lagos, and Colby Watkins earned the second place finish with a 1:34.45.

In the women’s 1m diving, Nazareth took the top two spots with Lizzy Tripp’s score of 469.00 and Alexa Rizzo’s 466.75. Julia Sank of Penn State Behrend rounded out the top three with a 267.25.

The women’s 800 yard freestyle relay was next with Nazareth’s team of Caroline Coleman, Alex Koeferl, Julie Filipski, and Elizabeth Deck finishing in the top spot with a time of 7:59.09. Coming in second, in 8:04.58, was the foursome from Hartwick College, made up of Joelle Ocheltree, Ellie Baird, Amanda Wilbur, and Bree Dy. Earning the third place finish was Penn State Altoona’s Sarah Petry, Madison Coleman, Grace Dangelo, and Avery Heisey, finishing in 8:09.44.

The men’s 800 yard freestyle relay was the final event on day one, with Alfred State College topping the competition. The Pioneer team of Westin Perry, Callum O’Neil, Avenn Toledo, and Jazz Widney finished the race in 6:56.78. Penn State Behrend’s Tim Compton, Jake Eshelman, Jax Abele, and Shane Rupert came in second place with a time of 7:02.81. Rounding out the top three was Nazareth’s Cameron Fairley, Kai D’Alessandro, Dylan Long, and Ryan Hough, who finished in 7:06.09.

The championships will continue Thursday morning with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and diving prelims at 11:30 a.m. The finals on Thursday are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
