PENN ST. BEHREND WOMEN, ALFRED STATE MEN LEAD AFTER DAY 1 OF SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP

The Penn State Behrend women and the Alfred State College men each sit in first place of the AMCC, after day one of the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships. 

After the events of day one, the Behrend women have 116 points, Alfred State is second with 108, Penn State Altoona is third with 72, Wells College is fourth with 62, and Pitt-Bradford rounds out the AMCC schools with 40 points. 

After Wednesday's events on the men's side, Alfred State holds a strong lead in the AMCC with 150 points, while Penn State Behrend is second with 112, Penn State Altoona is third with 44, and Pitt-Bradford is fourth with 30.

In the first event of the evening, the Alfred State men's 200 yard medley relay team of Westin Perry, Stuart Yates, Jazz Widney, and Luca Aldewereld claimed a first place finish with a time of 1:32.10. Pioneer senior Austin Miller also picked up a first place finish in the men's 3m diving with a score of 420.50. Coming in first place in the men's 800 yard freestyle relay was Penn State Behrend's Jake Eshelman, Jake Schmidt, Tim Compton, and Matt Karenbauer with a time of 6:56.10. 

On the women's side, Alfred State was the top AMCC finisher in the 200 yard medley relay, as Alyssa James, Mikaela Snayczuk, Mackenzie Gillette, and Madison Snayczuk finished in 1:52.27. Penn State Behrend was the top finisher in the AMCC in the women's 800 yard freestyle relay. The team made up of Marcella Puglia, Emma Webster, Bella Nadzam, and Aliya Webster touched the wall in 8:13.26.

The championships will continue Thursday morning with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and diving prelims at 11:30 a.m. The finals on Thursday are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
