MEN'S SWIMMERS AND DIVERS SET FOR FIRST AMCC-EMPIRE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

The AMCC men's swimming and diving teams will take to the starting blocks this week for the Inaugural 2020 AMCC-Empire Swimming and Diving Championship Meet. Hosted by Hartwick College at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, NY, the events will kick off Wednesday evening and will conclude Saturday, February 22.

Defending champion Penn State Behrend is looking for their 14th consecutive AMCC title as they set their sights on the 2020 championship meet. The Lions are led by four-time AMCC Swimmer of the Week, senior Quinn Fischer. Fischer racked up eight top ten times in the conferene this season, including ranking first in the 50 freestyle (21.40), 100 freestyle (46.56), and the 200 freestyle (1:44.26). Other top-ten times include the 500 freestyle (7th, 4:58.60), 1000 freestyle (3rd, 10:14.93), 100 backstroke (7th, 59.89), the 200 backstroke (7th, 2:12.02), and the 100 butterfly (54.51)

Alfred State College, 2019 AMCC runner-up, has seen a strong rookie campaign from freshman Matt Walker. Walker recorded five top times in the AMCC, along with four other top-ten finishes. His conference-leading times include the 50 breaststroke (29.11), 200 breaststroke (2:12.53), 100 indiviudal medley (57.21), 200 individual medley (1:59.37), and the 400 individual medley (4:24.87). Walker's other top-ten times include the 200 freestyle (8th, 1:49.52), 500 freestyle (5th, 4:54.41), 1000 freestyle (7th, 10:36.09), and the 100 breaststroke (2nd, 1.02.13). 

Penn State Altoona freshman Isaac Swanson made a big splash in his first collegiate season of competition, as he recorded a staggering 12 finishes that placed him in the top ten in the conference, including two top times. Swanson recorded the top times in the AMCC in the 1000 freestyle (10:90.59) and the 50 backstroke (24.90). Other top-ten times for Swanson include the 50 freestyle (3rd, 22.12), 100 freestyle (4th, 48.67), 200 freestyle (3rd, 1:46.51), 500 freestyle (6th, 4:55.28), 100 backstroke (2nd, 53.87), 200 backstroke (1:56.99), 100 butterfly (9th, 57.36), 100 individual medley (2nd, 58.64), 200 individual medley (6th, 2:06.26), and the 400 individual medley (3rd, 4:26.88).

Affiliate member SUNY Delhi freshman Taylor Filipowski picked up two times that put him in the top ten in conference rankings. Filipowski's 36.24 finish in the 50 breaststroke ranked him eighth in the AMCC, while his 1:11.64 in the 100 individual medley was ninth-best.

Pitt-Bradford freshman Tyler Sortore recorded a 2:15.88 finish in the 200 backstroke, the ninth-best finish in that event in the AMCC this season.
