SWANSON, MILLER TABBED AS TOP PERFORMERS IN MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

Penn State Altoona freshman Isaac Swanson had a standout week at the 2020 AMCC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship on his way to earning conference Men's Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors at the conclusion of the weekend.

Swanson had a hand in setting seven new Penn State Altoona men's swimming program records during last week's conference championships. The freshman set new records in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:41.97), 100 Yard Backstroke (52.31), and 200 Yard Backstroke (1:54.26). Swanson also set new team records in the 50 Yard Freestyle (21.82) and 100 Yard Freestyle (46.83) while competing in relay events, and he was part of the foursome that set new records in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:27.59) and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:13.89). Swanson had two individual first place finishes during the AMCC Championships last week, winning the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:41.97 and the 200 Yard Backstroke in 1:54.26. He also earned a second place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, posting a time of 52.31. In relay events, Swanson was part of teams that took runner-up status in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:27.59) and third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:38.93), 400 Yard Medley Relay (3:39.97), and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:13.89).

Alfred State College junior Austin Miller was strong in the diving events, earning himself AMCC Diver of the Year honors for the second straight year. Miller won both the 1m and 3m titles for the second year in a row at the Championship. He won the 3m on Wednesday with a score of 421.85 (2nd in overall in the meet) and won the 1m title with a score of 407.00 (3rd overall).

Coach of the Year honors goes to Alfred State head coach Mike Smiechowski. Smiechowski, in his first year at the helm of the Pioneers, led the men's team to a second place finish at the AMCC championship meet, while also coaching diver Austin Miller to his second straight Diver of the Year award.
