BEHREND MEN CRUISE TO 12TH AMCC SWIMMING & DIVING CROWN

After four days of AMCC swimming and diving championship competition, the Penn State Behrend men captured the 2018 conference championship with 744 total team points for their 12th straight title. Pitt-Bradford and Cabrini University finished in the second and third spots with 404 and 395 points, respectively. While Alfred State College (358) and Penn State Altoona (166) round out the final two spots.

Lion sophomore Mark Patterson earned Male Swimmer of the Year honors, while Alfred State College sophomore Nick Beach is the Diver of the Year. Pitt-Bradford freshman Jared Schwab earned the title of Newcomer of the Year.

The Lions won four more events and broke 10 records on the final day to win the conference title by 340 points. Patterson shined on the final day, being the only swimmer at the championships to hit an NCAA "B" cut time in the 200 backstroke. He won the event in 1:50.31 to set a new pool and AMCC meet record. In the 200 breaststroke, Noah Babik broke four records en route to becoming the individual champion. He set a new team, pool, AMCC meet and conference record in 2:07.84. 

In the last individual event of the championships, Behrend's Steven Owens won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.56 before making way for the 400 free relay. In the relay, the Lions led up until the final lap. The Pitt-Bradford foursome of Jared Schwab, Corey Koss, Nick Boyd, and Ben Koss surged ahead and won in 3:09.14, while Behrend touched in 3:09.16 for second place.
