BEHREND MEN, WOMEN LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF AMCC CHAMPIONSHIP

The Penn St. Behrend men and women both are in the lead after day one of the AMCC Swimming and Diving Championship hosted by Grove City College. 

The Behrend women crowned a conference champion in every non-diving event on the night to sit in first place after day one of competition. Behrend has a team score of 82 and second-place Cabrini tallied 54 points through six events. Pitt-Bradford is in third (44), Franciscan is fourth (41) and Penn State Altoona is in fifth (36).

Lion sophomores Maryn Horn and Gwendolyn Lowery were AMCC champion in a pair of events. The two teamed up with freshman Jessica Wyckoff and junior Allie Schneider to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:41.46.

Horn claimed the AMCC title in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.12. 

After finishing runner-up a year ago, Lowery got the gold medal in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.87.

The Behrend men won five of the six events on day one, holding a 64-point lead over Cabrini for first place (106). Pitt-Bradford is two points away from second with 40 and Penn State Altoona is fourth (21).

Behrend freshman Nick Snyder claimed the AMCC gold medal in two events, including the 50 free and the 200 free relay (with teammates Ty Elder, Nathan Wagner, and Matt Myers).

Swimmers will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
