DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: D'Youville D Josh Hammer played a huge role for the Spartans this past week as they went 2-0 in conference play. Beginning with their game on Wednesday against Hilbert, Hammer played a crucial role on the Spartan's defense that allowed just one goal in the 5-1 victory over Hilbert. On Saturday against Penn State-Altoona, Hammer was again a key part of a defense that shutout the Lions, lifting the team to a 3-0 victory. In addition to his major defensive contributions, Hammer added five shots in the two games. As a team captain, Hammer has helped lead the Spartans to currently holding onto the final playoff spot in the AMCC playoffs with one game remaining.

 

BEST OF THE REST: Mount Aloysius D Pete Smerecky led a backline that allowed zero goals and just four shots on goal in two dominant Mountie victories...Medaille GK Callum Christie recorded four saves in Saturday's win over Franciscan, giving him four straight shut outs, as he last gave up a goal on September 23 against Mt. Aloysius...PS-Behrend D Nick Schwarzel notched his first two collegiate goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over Pitt-Bradford, and was also instrumental in keeping La Roche scoreless in the game on Saturday, recording the Lions' ninth shutout of the season...Pitt-Bradford GK Derrick Brock made 16 saves this week (eight per game) in a pair of conference matches, first against Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday and next against Mount Aloysius Saturday...La Roche GK Abdullah Aljundi made 16 saves in two games last week...Franciscan M Dominc Vander Woude led the Barons to a 1-1 week by handing out one assist and taking three shots and limiting the Lions to just six shots, four on goal.
