BEHREND MEN'S SOCCER ADVANCES TO ECAC SEMIFINALS

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team scored a 1-0 shutout victory over Franciscan University in the second round of the ECAC Championships Sunday afternoon.

To start the game, Behrend's John Ziobro had a great scoring opportunity in the fifth minute, but his shot was sent off the post. Another great scoring opportunity for the Lions came in the 23rd minute, when Nate Coleman sent a breakaway shot off the body of Franciscan's goalkeeper Jax Mautone. The Lions got on the board in the 35th minute, thanks to an own goal by the Barons. A Franciscan defender attempted to head the ball out of the box, but it ended up trickling in to the back of the net. Behrend's defense was able to secure the win in the final period, holding the Barons to only three second half shots to earn its 11th shutout of the season.

Goalkeeper Sam York finished with three saves to earn his seventh shutout. Johnathan Swann led the Lions with three shots, while Joseph St. George and Augustine Rubino each tallied a team-high two shots for the Barons.

As a team, Behrend outshot Franciscan, 14-8. Nine of the Lions 14 shots were on goal

The Lions will travel to Alvernia on Saturday, Nov. 18 to take on Goucher in the ECAC Semifinals. Game time has yet to be determined
