ALFRED STATE WEARS FIRST AMCC MEN'S SOCCER CROWN

For the first time in team history, Alfred State College has won the AMCC men's soccer championship, defeating Mount Aloysius College, in penalty kicks, 4-3.  The score was 1-1 at the end of two overtime periods, but the Pioneers came through in the PK round with a save by freshman goalkeeper Brayden Fox and goals by Ali Mata-Ruiz, Jack Leahy, Jackson Powers, Nuri Sarbudak and Alexander Romero to seal the win.

The upset-minded #3 seeded Pioneers (17-3-1) advanced to the finals with a 2-1 win over #2 Penn State Behrend on Wednesday before defeating the two-time defending champion Mounties on their home field.

Mount Aloysius got on the board first, with a penalty kick scored by forward Juan Camacho at the 28:25 mark of the first half.  Alfred State came back with 13:33 remaining in the second half with a rocket shot from Ali Mata-Ruiz to the bottom left corner of the net.

Saturday's game was Alfred State's first appearance in the men's soccer final.  With the victory they also earned the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.  Pairings will be announced Monday.
