MOUNTIES TO FACE OHIO NORTHERN IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

AMCC men's soccer champion Mount Aloysius College (9-7-3) has drawn No. 11-ranked Ohio Northern University (13-3-3) in the first round of the NCAA tournament. This is the Mounties second consecutive trip to the national stage.

North Park (Ill.) (14-3-2) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) (13-1-4) will play in the other first round match.

The two winners will play in the second round on Sunday. The match times will be announced later in the week.

The ONU Polar Bears are making their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Ohio Northern earned an at-large bid to the tournament after winning the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title with a 8-0-1 record

The Mounties earned the automatic bid from the AMCC by edging Penn State-Behrend 5-4 in penalty kicks in the AMCC Tournament finals.

The Mounties will look for leadership from senior F Tevin Beadle, the AMCC Offensive Player of the Year, who led the AMCC in conference goals scored with nine.

The Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State Behrend men’s soccer postseasons also continue as the two teams were accepted into the ECAC Tournament. The Bobcats will play the Behrend Lions in Erie this Sunday in the second round of the tournament.

The Bobcats and Lions will be meeting for the third time this season, with both the previous matchups going to the Lions by the score of 4-0. Pitt-Greensburg trailed both matches by a 1-0 score at half, with the Lions scoring three second half goals to put the match out of reach.

The Bobcats will try to figure out the Behrend defense, as the team recorded just five shots in the two matches this season. Pitt-Greensburg started the game out strong in the AMCC Semi Finals against Behrend, peppering the Lions keeper with two early shots. Those were the only shots that the Bobcats were able to record in the game.

Behrend is coming off of an AMCC Finals loss to Mount Aloysius which came down to penalty kicks. The Lions missed on penalty kick in the shootout compared to the Mounties finding the back of the net in all five attempts.

The time of the game is yet to be announced.
