The AMCC men's soccer game of the week is the Wednesday match-up between the Penn State-Behrend Lions and the Medaille College Mavericks. The Mavs and Lions have a rich history between the two. Sixteen AMCC Championships, and fourteen times the two have finished atop the conference in the regular season. Three straight years of a clash of champions for the AMCC Championship. This week, the Lions travel to the new home of the Medaille Mavericks at the Medaille Sports Complex at Buffalo Color Park. Behrend will enter Western New York without having dropped a single game this year, including a win over #14 Mount Union.

Penn St. Behrend remains No. 2 in the USC Great Lakes Region and is currently 10th in the USC Top 25 National Poll. The Lions are the only team in Division III untied and undefeated. Behrend improves the winning streak to 11 straight games with a 3-1 decision over Franciscan on Saturday. Richard Blanchard is tied for 12th in NCAA Division III statistics in total assists with seven. Nick Schwarzel was named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week for scoring the eventual game winner vs. Franciscan and helping the Lions post their sixth shutout of the season on Wednesday vs. D’Youville. Additionally, the Lions moved from No. 25 in the D3Soccer.com Poll into 21st after a 2-0 week.

Behrend has been constantly climbing the ranks, now ranked 10th in the coach’s poll. However, Medaille’s offense is getting hot at just the right time. Medaille senior Mitchell Ali has gone on a tear since scoring his first goal of the season against Nazareth. Ali has eleven goals in eleven games, ranking him first in the AMCC in goals thus far. The Mavs have combined for seven goals scored over their last two games, their highest total on the season between two matches so far. Over those last two matches, Medaille has had five different goal scorers and eight different players earning a point. So, this match-up Wednesday could provide for some fireworks. A nationally ranked team against a team who’s getting hot at the right time. Two teams who have had numerous tightly contested battles over the years. The history, the drama and it all goes down on Wednesday at the Medaille Sports Complex.
