BEHREND MEN'S SOCCER ADVANCES TO NCAA TOURNAMENT WITH AMCC TITLE WIN

Penn St. Behrend earned their tenth AMCC men's soccer title Saturday, defeating Medaille College, 1-0.

With the win, the Lions earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament for the second straight year.

The Mavs were the AMCC regular season champions and top seed in the tournament.  They defeated Behrend, 1-0, in their regular season match to claim home field advantage for the playoffs.

The contest was decided by the thinnest of margins as both teams battled evenly for most of the 90 minutes.  Behrend goalkeeper Matt Warnaka stopped eight Medaille attempts to earn the shutout while the Mavericks' ace Jonny Pitts turned away seven of eight shots.  Richard Blanchard buried a penalty kick following a foul in the box with just under 15 minutes remaining and Behrend's defense took care of the rest.

The NCAA tournament pairings and schedule will be announced on Monday.
