AMCC MEN'S SOCCER: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS

The AMCC is embarking on its 20th anniversary during the 2016-17 academic year. Since 1997 there have been many outstanding teams and individual student-athletes who have risen to the top of their sports.  We are honored to recognize and highlight some of those accomplishments throughout this anniversary year.

AMCC men's soccer has crowned five different champions over the past 20 years, with Penn St. Behrend picking up eight titles and Medaille College six. The Lions and Mavs met in the 2016 championship game this past weekend, with Behrend prevailing for their eighth conference title.

Medaille claimed six conference titles between 2005 and 2012. This was due in large part to Gary Boughton and Alexander Rouse. Broughton was a two-time player of the year in 2007 and 2009. In 2007, Broughton scored 11 goals and added 19 assists, an average of 2.16 points per game. He followed that up in 2009 by scoring 10 goals and picking up 22 assists in 22 games for a team high 42 points. He was named to the Scholar All-America Second Team, was First Team All-Region and also named to the ECIC Regional First Team.

Rouse garnered back-to-back player of the year honors in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, he scored 14 goals and had four assists, leading the team with 32 points in 23 contests. He was named to the Scholar All-America Second Team and was also First Team All-Region. Rouse turned in another standout season in 2011, leading the AMCC in both goals (28) and points (62).

Former Behrend standout Eric Hackworth was named defensive player of the year in 2012 and 2013.  Hackworth led the Lions in playing minutes and anchored a defense that conceded less than a goal a game in 2012. In 2013, he was in charge of the league’s stingiest defense and led the Lions to the AMCC title.
