EIGHT AMCC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED TO GREAT LAKES ALL-REGION TEAM

Eight AMCC men's soccer players were selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Continental Tire NCAA Division III Great Lakes All-Region Team.

Leading the way on the First Team are Penn St. Behrend seniors Jimmy Belack and Jarrod Wassell, along with Michael Jackson and Austin Tom of Medaille. Belack earned AMCC Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with 48 points and 17 goals. He also ranked in the Top Ten in the national rankings in numerous statistical categories including assists per game (.64), game-winning goals (7), total assists (14) and total points (48).

The AMCC Defensive Player of the Year Honors, Wassell was solid in the net for the Behrend squad. Wassell posted a 15-3 record, 0.61 goals against average and blanked nine opponents. He allowed just 11 goals in 20 starts, the second fewest all-time in program history.

Jackson was tough on defense, using his size and athleticism to be the anchor of the Medaille defense.  He also scored two goals, including the double overtime, game winner in the AMCC Semifinals finals against Pitt-Greensburg.  Jackson was selected to the AMCC First-Team.

Tom, also an AMCC First-Team selection, tied for the team lead with nine goals and also tied for second on the team with 22 points, while also playing solid defense at the other end of the field.

Medaille sophomore forward Junior Geegba is the lone AMCC player to earn Second Team honors.  Geegba tied for the team lead with nine goals and led the team with 24 points and 4 game-winning goals.  Geegba was also named to the AMCC First Team.

Rounding out the All-Great Lakes Region Team are Medaille defender Alex Pollak, Penn St. Behrend defender Michael Worthy, and La Roche forward Bryan Weimerskirch, who all were named to the Third Team.

Alex Pollak, an AMCC Second Team selection, was named the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Thiel Invitational earlier in the season and was also tabbed as the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week for that performance.

Worthy was the backbone of the Lions' defense and locked down opposing offenses. He started every game this season and chipped in two goals and an assist. As a team, Behrend allowed only 16 goals in 22 games and recorded 14 shutouts including a stretch of five straight from October 4 through 17.

Weimerskirch became the first Redhawk to make the NSCAA All-Region Team. He holds the school record for career points and goals and is tied for the single season mark in both categories. He was also the 2013 AMCC Player of the Year, 2011 ECAC and AMCC Newcomer of the Year, and a Four-Time AMCC All-Conference performer.
