LA ROCHE EARNS 7TH BASEBALL TITLE, HEADING TO NCAA TOURNAMENT

La Roche University (30-13) defeated Penn St. Altoona (28-16), 6-0, to clinch their 7th AMCC baseball title in program history.

With the victory, the Redhawks earned the right to represent the AMCC in the NCAA Div. III National Tournament beginning next weekend.  Selections and seeding will be announced Monday. The Redhawks are currently ranked #8 in the Mideast region.

Tristen Tinney took the hill to start the AMCC Championship Game and opened with a scoreless first inning. He followed with a perfect second inning and Jonathan Melendez gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to score Jonathan Spina.

The Redhawks left the bases loaded in the third but Tinney kept Altoona runners stranded in the top of the fourth and La Roche added one in the bottom of the inning.

Melendez hit a one-out double into right field, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Dylan Urban sac fly.

Tinney continued to shut down the Lions and Shane Roebuck came through with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Roebuck's home run tied David Lemley for the school's career home run record.

Urban made a diving catch in the bottom of the sixth. Tinney used a strikeout to get out of two-out two-on jam in the seventh inning.

Tre Cunningham entered in relief in the top of the eighth and tossed a scoreless inning. Jake Seymour followed with a scoreless ninth for the Redhawks seventh AMCC Championship.
