MOUNTIES' BOWIE, HELSEL NAMED CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

After being recognized as 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team selections in early May, Mount Aloysius senior baseball players Connor Bowie and Ian Helsel earned Academic All-American honors on Wednesday afternoon as announced by the organization. Bowie was named a First Team Academic All-American in the outfield, while Helsel was selected Second Team Academic All-American in the infield. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Helsel, a Biology and Pre-Physical Therapy major, earned a 3.93 cumulative GPA during his time as a Mountie. Bowie, a Business Administration major, had a 3.92 cumulative GPA over four years at Mount Aloysius. Both Helsel and Bowie have been named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference team and both are members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society.

Bowie was an AMCC First Team All-Conference selection this season after ranking first in the conference with 53 runs scored and 28 stolen bases. He hit .368 in his final season and finished with a tie for fourth in the conference with seven home runs while adding 40 RBI's, seven doubles and five triples. Bowie concluded his career with three All-Conference selections and three All-Region honors.

Helsel, a two-time AMCC All-Conference selection, finished his senior season ranking in a tie for third in the conference with 46 runs scored as the Mounties leadoff hitter and second basemen. He finished third in hits in the conference with 65 and registered 13 doubles, four triples and 26 RBI's.
