LA ROCHE FALLS TO FROSTBURG STATE IN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

La Roche College Baseball made school history becoming the first-ever team to make it to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship. The Redhawks defeated Heidelberg 6-5 earlier in the day before falling to Frostburg State 8-4 in the Championship.

La Roche seniors, first baseman Cory Podvasnik and starting pitcher Tyler Ferguson were named to the All-Tournament Team after putting together a fantastic five games.

Frostburg State scored twice in the bottom of the first but the Redhawks answered in the second with a pair of runs.

La Roche drew three straight walks to start the inning and senior John Watson singled in Podvasnik and senior Franzee Barlamas to tie it at 2-2. The Bobcats scored two each in the second and third innings before the Redhawks got two back in the fourth. Senior Matt Sabatini chopped a single to third to score junior Dylan Wolsonovich and junior Colin Williamson laid down a squeeze scoring senior Brian Tougher.

Frostburg State scored twice in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead. Junior Brady Hamer threw a terrific six innings of relief to keep the Redhawks in the game. He did not allow an earned run and struck out 10 batters, however, the Bobcats held on for the four run win.

Watson finished with a pair of RBIs while Sabatini and Williamson also hit in runs. Podvasnik, Barlamas, Wolsonovich and Tougher scored runs.

Despite the loss, the Redhawks set numerous records this season including most wins in a season and furthest postseason run.
