Behrend Baseball Captures Sixth ECAC Title

READING, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team defeated Alvernia to capture the 2023 ECAC Division III Baseball Championship with a 6-4 on Friday afternoon.

Noteworthy:

*  Evan Bromely (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) was named the Most Valuable Player of the championships

Key Moments:

* It marks the Lions sixth ECAC Championship and first since 2015
* Silvio Ionadi (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) smacked a triple with two outs in the top of the fourth to score Zac Bogats (Corapolis, PA/Moon) and also add a run on the same play with an error by the shortstop to give Behrend the lead for good
* With a 4-3 lead, the Lions added two more runs in the fifth for a three-run advantage
* Alvernia tallied the final run in the bottom of the fifth frame for 6-4 decision
* Colin Harger (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base in his final collegiate baseball game
* Harger had an RBI single to center field in the second and a two-RBI single to left center in the fifth to help the Lions grab the lead and then stay there
* Ryan Meneskie (Moon Township, PA/Moon) also tallied three hits and scored two runs
* Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) had two hits, including the lone double
* On the mound, Ethan Tinker pitched the first three innings before giving way to Bromley for the win
* Bromley allowed three hits and one run for his sixth win
* Behrend finished the season with a 22-19 record
