Preview: Men's Basketball at D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY - La Roche men's basketball travels to conference opponent D'Youville College this Saturday to take on the Spartans for the second time this season. Earlier this season at the Kerr, after trailing at halftime, La Roche outscored D'Youville by 13 points in the second half to win, 90-79. Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 2:00 p.m. at the College Center Gym on D'Youville's campus.

La Roche (OVR: 13-6, AMCC: 13-1)

Last Time Out: The Redhawks took down Mt. Aloysius at home last Wednesday (1/29), 73-57, behind a well-balanced effort on both ends of the floor. The Redhawks four leading scorers all finished within one point of each other (Smith: 14, Ross: 14, Lawrence: 13, Frederick: 13). Tyler Frederick recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Frederick also posted a career-high five blocks. The Redhawks shot 57% (17-30) from the field in the first half of Wednesday's contest, outscoring the Mounties 41-29 through the first 20 minutes of action. La Roche forced the Mounties to shoot just 31% (10-32) in the second half. Mt. Aloysius 57 points is the second lowest point total by an opponent this season.

  • Wednesday's win is La Roche's fourth straight by double-digits. During that span, the Redhawks have won by an average of 15 points.
  • At 13-1 in conference play this season, LRU remains the top seed in the AMCC standings, holding a two game advantage over Pitt Greensburg (11-3).
  • The Redhawks have not lost a regular season home game since December 6th, 2017. Since then, La Roche is an incredible 29-0 at the Kerr.
  • Tyler Frederick leads the conference in scoring (18.7 PPG) and rebounding (11.5 RPG). Frederick's rebounds per game mark ranks 10th in D-III. He also ranks first in the conference and tied for 11th in D-III in double-doubles with 11.

  • With a 3-11 conference record, the Spartans currently occupy the second to last spot in the league standings.
  • The Spartans most impressive win of the season was when they took down #2 seed Pitt Greensburg at home, 98-82.
  • D'Youville has four players that average between 12.1-13.1 points per game. 
  • Senior forward Juan Miguel Rosales is the teams leading rebounder, averaging 7.6 boards per game.
  • The Spartans have allowed their opponents to score an average of 87.2 points per game (worst in AMCC).
