Eagles Dominate in Sweep Over Bearcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Following a strong showing over the weekend at the Juniata/PSU Invitational, the #15 ranked Juniata men's volleyball team returned to action against St. Vincent College in Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Dominant from the start, the Eagles carried that momentum to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) victory.

The offense was carried by the tandem of Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown HS) and Drew Hunker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny HS). Phelan contributed ten kills, six digs, and a service ace while carrying a stellar hitting percentage of .562. Hunker added ten kills of his own, along with three service aces, a dig, and a block assist, and a .353 hitting percentage. Tyler Goldsborough (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) also added nine kills, six digs, an assist, and a block assist, hitting .571. Reese Ganter (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) had an impressive 14 assists and a dig playing in only the first set, while Austin Goodsel (Corry, Pa / Fort Leboeuf HS) added 18 assists, four digs, two block assists, and two service aces, rounding out a comprehensive Eagles victory.

The Eagles trailed in a set only once, down 4-2 in the 2nd set. They quickly rectified that, going on a six-point run carried by two service aces from Hunker.

St. Vincent finished with a team hitting percentage of only .083, compared to Juniata's tally of .455. The Bearcats did display an improved showing in the 3rd set, hitting .286 and managing to produce their smallest set margin.

Juniata's next match takes them on the road, to face Geneva at 7:00 pm on Friday.
