Redhawks Roll Past Mounties 14-1 For First Time In Program History

CRESSON, Pa. – For the first time in program history, La Roche women's lacrosse defeated Mt. Aloysius, throttling the Mounties, 14-1 on Thursday night.

It was a low scoring first quarter, as the Redhawks put a pair of goals in the net.

Alecia D'Urso opened the scoring at 11:32 of the quarter, and the second goal came just 40 seconds later, when D'Urso assisted Jade Fuccaro.

After 13:46 of scoreless play, that went into the second quarter, La Roche locked in offensively, peppering the Mounties for six goals.

D'Urso, assisted by Fucarro, opened the scoring in the second frame at 12:06, then Fucarro picked up her second of the game, free position, at 7:54.

D'Urso would net her third to make the score 5-0, then she set up Jasey Reiser to make it 6-0.

Alex Mecchia and D'Urso for the third time of the quarter, scored the remaining two goals and the Redhawks took an 8-0 lead into the half.

Out of the break, Reiser found the back of the net again at 9:10, then Mt. Aloysius scored its lone goal of the game at 8:27 of the third quarter.

Kiki Nemcek got on the board at 3:47, assisted by Reiser, then Fuccaro put the running clock into effect at 1:34, assisted by Kinsey Sperling.

In the fourth, D'Urso scored her fifth of the night, Nemcek her second and Sperling got her first, assisted by Mecchia.

The shot total was all La Roche, outshooting the Mounties, 25-12 and 17-7 in shots on goal.

Julianna Hornikel had another great start in the cage, stopping six of seven shots, while Nemcek collected eight ground balls to lead the way

La Roche now prepares for the second matchup against Hilbert, as the Redhawks travel to face Hawks on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 3 p.m.
