Redhawks Fall In Doubleheader To Hilbert

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball welcomed Hilbert on Friday afternoon for an AMCC doubleheader. Game one went in favor of the visiting Hawks by way of shutout, but game two would come down to the wire.

GAME ONE: Hilbert 4 La Roche 0

Game one saw minimal scoring over the first six innings, as the only run during that time was by Hilbert, thanks to an RBI single.

The rest of the scoring came in the top of the seventh, when the Hawks scored three runs, one off an RBI single and two from Redhawk errors.

Maura Wade threw a complete game in the circle and in the loss allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, three walks and struck out four.

Offensively, Wade had the lone hit of the game for La Roche.

GAME TWO: Hilbert 7 La Roche 4

Game two scoring started in the top of the third with an RBI double by Hilbert to take the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks doubled up the Redhawks in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.

The Redhawks wasted no time getting on the board for the first time on the day, doubling up Hilbert with a four-run bottom of the fourth.

Finley Hohn first tied the game at 2-2 with a two RBI double, then Emma Bizay drove in Maura Wade on an RBI fielder's choice.

That same play, when the Hawks went to get Wade out at home, Bizay drew a throw to second, allowing Brianna Wynn to score from third to plate the fourth run.

Hilbert would seal the victory in the top of the fifth, closing the scoring with a three-run inning.

An error began the scoring to make it 4-3, then two RBI doubles followed as the Hawks took the game two victory.

In game two, Klover Haberthier got the start, and in the loss threw 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned), six hits, two walks and struck out four.

Wade came back to the circle for 2.1 innings of hitless relief, striking out one.

Offensively, the Redhawks had just three hits, all dispersed amongst Wade, Hohn and Brooke Murgenovich.

La Roche is back in action on Monday, Apr. 7 when they face Penn State DuBois in non-conference play. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
