LOUISVILLE, KY – Garrett Mathews threw a five-hit shutout to help the Spalding baseball team defeat Penn State Behrend 3-0 in the final contest of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

* Mathews pitched eight of the nine innings for his first win of the season while Zach Vogt earned his third save in the win
* Spalding scattered three runs across the first six innings
* The Golden Eagles scored in the first on a single by Eric Meyer to score Garret Wilson
* Spalding added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and another on a single to center field in the sixth
* Josh Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) and Zach Bowen (Pittsburgh, PA/Sierra Catholic) each registered two hits for the Lions
* Wagner gave Behrend its best scoring opportunity in the sixth inning with his first double of the season * Wagner doubled down right-field line and advanced to third on Bowen's ensuing single through the left side
* Jacob Lindow (Bridgeville, PA/Chartiers Valley) pitched six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits
* Jeff Zick (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) came in relief for the final two innings
