La Roche Defeats Behrend to Advance to AMCC Title Game

PITTSBURGH, PA - Men's basketball played a semi-final game this afternoon against the Penn State Behrend Lions. A 63-55 win for the Redhawks earned them a spot in tomorrow's Title Game.

Both teams knew what was at stake this afternoon, and neither team was willing to go down without a fight. The Lions came out with a strict game plan, to play tough defense on La Roche's typical double-digit scorers. Tried as they may they couldn't hold back Devon Darrell who has been the leading scorer for the Redhawks all season long. The senior netted 31 points on the night; he also led the team in rebounds with 8.

An area that helped capture a La Roche victory was the second chance points the team fought for. The team earned 10 second-chance points while the Lions only earned 1.

During the entirety of the game, the two teams never tied up the score, there were, however, 4 lead changes. La Roche held on to the lead for the majority of the game, only allowing the Lions to capture the lead for 2 minutes and 43 seconds.

Helping keep this score was Jordan Grayson. Grayson proved once again that just because he's marked down on the roster as a forward doesn't mean you can't shoot. The big man went 3-for-5 from deep, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He was the only other Redhawk to earn double digits with 11.

With their victory, La Roche earned the first spot in the AMCC Championship contest. Later this afternoon, Penn State Altoona defeated the Panthers of Pitt-Bradford to earn the only other spot in the battle for the title.

The Championship game will take place at La Roche University, in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center at 1:00 PM. Awards will follow directly after the contest.
