The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, swimming & diving, and women's volleyball for the period running from October 21-27, 2024.
Women's Soccer (Offensive): PS-Altoona F/M Mallorie Smith had a big week in a pair of AMCC road wins, including setting two new all-time team records. In Wednesday night's win at Carlow, she scored two goals and added two assists to move into first place on the Lions' all-time points list. She followed that up with two more goals and an assist in Saturday's victory at Pitt-Bradford, when she became the women's soccer program's all-time leading goal scorer. On the week, Smith scored four goals and recorded three assists. She also attempted 24 shots, putting 14 on goal.
Women's Soccer (Defensive): Pitt-Greensburg D Dionna Santia made two starts and had three points on the week with a goal and an assist. Defensively, she helped keep both opponents scoreless, while holding the opposing teams to a total of three shots on goal. On offense, she had her second goal of the season off a free kick and also scored an assist on a crucial goal against La Roche with a cross.
Men's Soccer (Offensive): PS-Altoona M Matias Harte recorded an assist and attempted five shots, putting one on goal in Wednesday's home win over AMCC opponent Carlow. In Saturday's victory on the road against conference foe Pitt-Bradford, he scored a goal and attempted five more shots, with three coming on goal. On the week, Matias had a goal and an assist, attempted 10 shots, and put four shots on goal.
Men's Soccer (Defensive): PS-Altoona D Owen Myers led a defensive unit that allowed just one goal and held the two opponents to a combined eight shot attempts in a 2-0 week of AMCC play against Carlow and Pitt-Bradford for the Lions.
Women's Volleyball (Offensive): Alfred State OH Alayna Tomlinson led the Pioneers to a 2-0 week with 36 kills along with 23 digs and seven aces. In a sweep over Greensburg, she tallied 14 kills, nine digs, two aces, and a block. She followed with a 22 kill and 14 dig double-double in the second game against Greensburg, while also adding five aces in the match.
Women's Volleyball (Defensive): Hilbert L Natalie Ruhlmann was instrumental in a 3-0 week for the Hawks, heping to bring her team into playoff contention. She had a record-setting week where she recorded 75 digs, 38 of which were against Bradford, a single-match school record, while also adding six aces. Hilbert started the week off 0-3 in AMCC play, before rattling off three straight wins to even their record at 3-3.
Men's Swimming: PS-Altoona JR Caden Traggiai won the 200 Yard Freestyle by finishing in 1:49.55 and the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:04.35 in Friday's night's win at St. Vincent. He also had a third-place finish in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:09.40, and he was part of the third-place team in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay that totaled a time of 1:37.47.
Men's Diving: Alfred State JR Conor Compton won two events in a tri-meet with Alfred U and Brockport on Saturday. First he won the 1-meter dive for the Pioneers, ending with a score of 305.25. Secondly, he won the 3-meter diving with a score of 328.05.
Women's Swimming: Alfred State SR Madison Snayczuk won three events on the week -- two individuals and one relay. Snayczuk took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.13 and the 50 free, with a 25.66 finish. She then earned a first place finish with her teammates in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with a total time of 3:52.01.
