AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR SEPTEMBER 3-8, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, cross country, men's golf, women's volleyball, and women's tennis for the period running from September 3-8, 2024.

Women's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Behrend OH Cadence Jones led the Lions with 4.06 kills per set in a 2-2 weekend for Penn State Behrend. She knocked down double-digit kills in each match and recorded her first double-double with 21 kills and 14 digs in the win over Geneva. Jones also added 35 digs, 12 service aces and 10 blocks in four matches. She tallied a season-best 22 kills in the win over Houghton.

Women's Volleyball (Defensive): Mount Aloysius L Madison Barr had impressive week on defense for the Mounties, helping them to two victories. In a 3-0 win against Penn State Mont Alto, she had 16 digs and a .905 receiving percentage. She then followed that up with 26 digs in the team's win against Albright, averaging 6.50 digs per set. For the week, she averaged 6.0 digs per set. Overall, Barr is second in the AMCC in digs per set and fourth in total digs, through the first two weekends of the season.

Men's Cross Country: Alfred State FR Christian Wescott was the first Pioneer to finish at the Brockport Invitational as he came in 21st out of 124 runners with a time 16:50.2 in the 5k.

Women's Cross Country: Alfred State SO Oli Kraynik was the first Pioneer across the line at the Brockport Invitational as she finished 12th out of 94 runners with a time of 20:30.7 in the 5k.

Men's Golf: PS-Altoona SO Nicky Riscica put together two solid rounds in his Lions debut this past weekend, during the two-day Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic. In Friday's round at the Lions' home course, Sinking Valley Country Club, he led all AMCC golfers by shooting a 73, 1-over par. He followed that up with a 5-over-par score, 77, in Saturday's round at Summit Country Club. Riscica totaled 150 across the two rounds to tie for ninth place out of 110 individuals.

Women's Soccer (Offensive): Pitt-Bradford F Mya King led the Panthers to a 1-0-1 weekend participating on four of five Panther goals. She totaled three goals and an assist on nine shots, seven of which were on goal. The freshman scored her first career goal to tie the game at Bard before assisting another goal to put the Panthers in front, as they then went on end the game in a 3-3 tie. Against SUNY Cobleskill, King scored both goals, opening the scoring in the third minute from 25 yards before putting the game away in the 70th. The Panthers defeated Cobleskill 2-0.

Women's Soccer(Defensive): Mount Aloysius GK McKenna Meadows made her first career start and earned her first career shutout, in a tie with Wilson. She helped the Mounties to their first tie of the season, making three saves in goal. She is one of only five goalkeepers in the AMCC with a shutout and is one of only two goalies that have not allowed a goal through the first week-plus of the season.

Men's Soccer (Offensive): Carlow M/D Eric Fowler scored a brace in Carlow's shutout of Mont Alto Sept. 4, as the Celtics won the game 3-0. 

Men's Soccer (Defensive): Mount Aloysius SO Axel Tamm earned a tie in his Mountie debut on Saturday against Juniata. He tallied three saves and allowed just one goal, stopping 75% of the shots he faced.

Women's Tennis: Carlow SR Caitlin McCarthy swept her No. 2 singles spot against St. Vincent, 6-1, 6-1, but the Celtics fell 6-1 to the Bearcats.
