AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR JANUARY 13-19, 2025

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, swimming & diving, wrestling, and men's volleyball for the period running from January 13-19, 2025.

Men's Swimming: Pitt-Bradford JR Conan Young set two pool records at Roberts Wesleyan, dominating three different races in the Panthers' first meet of 2025. He won the 1000-yard freestyle by 42 seconds and set the pool record with a time of 10:01.31. He followed that with another record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.80. Finally, he closed with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 57.42 seconds.

Women's Swimming: PS-Behrend FR Kallie Smith won two events for the Lions against Grove City on Saturday. She touched first in 56.69 in the 100 freestyle, before winning the 200 IM in 2:00.64

Men's Wrestling: Penn SO Nick Woodruff (197) extended his winning streak to six matches and an undefeated dual record after a 3-0 weekend. The 197-pounder recorded two pins and a major decision against US Merchant Marine Academy, Hunter College and New York University. Woodruff started the day with a 6:54 fall and 1:36 fall against his Merchant Marine and Hunter College opponents, respectively, before capping the night with a 17-5 major decision against Mark Dickey of NYU.

Women's Wrestling: Alfred State JR Dianna Pineda (117) took fifth place in the 117 bracket. Pineda opened with a 10-0 major decision win over Sabina Alvarez-Prats (McDaniel). After suffering a loss, Pineda tallied back-to-back falls over Yenyia Terry (Elmira) and Melanie Val (Cedar Crest) to get to the fifth-place match. In that match, Pineda notched a 10-0 major decision win over Nuria Kojic (New Jersey City) to take fifth.

Men's Basketball: Pitt-Bradford G/F Jamarion Butler averaged 29 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game in another 2-0 week for Pitt-Bradford in AMCC play. Butler shot 52.8% from the field and made 19-of-21 from the line in the wins. He scored 27 points as the Panthers set a team record in a 135-92 win over Alfred State, and then led the team to a 98-93 win over Pitt-Greensburg scoring 31 points while accumulating 12 rebounds and six steals.

Women's Basketball: Carlow G Sydney Carr led the Celtics to a 2-0 week in AMCC action with an average 17.5 points per game. She went 8-for-12 from beyond the arc and also averaged eight rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. In an 81-76 win over Penn State Altoona, she recorded 24 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists. She followed that up with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 70-64 win over Alfred State.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Buffalo State OH Gavin Wilczewski had a stellar pair of weekends to open the season for the Bengals. At the SUNY Poly Invite, Wilczewski compiled 42 kills across four matchups with three of those matchups against nationally ranked opponents. The Bengals then went on to go 2-1 at the St. John Fisher Invite where Wilczewski compiled 53 kills across three matchups including a career-high 20 kills with a .381 attack percentage against the #11-ranked Cardinals. In the team's win over Penn State Behrend, Wilczewski had 14 kills with a .345 attack percentage before adding 19 kills in the win over Wittenberg.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): Buffalo State DS Alex Vega was a staple for the Buffalo State defense in his first two weekends as a Bengal. In the SUNY Poly Invite, Vega totaled 35 digs with a .960 combined reception percentage playing in every set. This past weekend at the St. John Fisher Invite, Vega tallied 55 digs across three matchups including a season-high 26 against Wittenberg. Across three contests, Vega registered a .975 reception percentage and averaged nearly seven digs per set against Wittenberg.
