AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 8-14, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's and women's track & field, baseball, and tennis and women's softball and lacrosse for the period running from April 8-14, 2024.

Softball (Player): PS-Behrend SO Meghan Petitte tallied 13 hits, 10 runs, eight RBI, two doubles, two triples and two home runs in a 5-1 week for the Lions. She smacked a home run in each game vs. La Roche. Petitte had multiple hits in all six games this week, going 3-for-3 against Alfred in game one. She walked three times and had a stolen base. Petitte is currently on an eight-game hitting streak.

Softball (Pitcher): Hilbert FR Kailey Stolowski lifted Hilbert in a 4-2 week and a second place ranking in the league. She won two games including a no-hitter against Wells while earning a complete game victory in game one against Carlow. She then went on to pick up a save against Carlow in game two of the double header. Stolowski finished the week striking out 23 and currently leads the AMCC with 8.77 K/7 and 71 strike outs over 56.2 innings of work.

Baseball (Player): PS-Behrend INF Silvio Ionadi finished the week 13-for-17 for a .765 batting average in six games last week. Ionadi recorded 11 RBI, three triples, three doubles, and 13 runs scored. The second-year infielder went 3-for-3 in three different contests and recorded a .727 average in four conference games (8-for-11).

Baseball (Pitcher): Alfred State JR Ryan Bailey pitched a complete 7.0 inning shutout in game one of Sunday's double header against Pitt-Greensburg. Baliey tallied eight strikeouts while holding the Bobcats to two hits.

Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): Wells M Lydia Thomas powered a nationally-ranked Express offense in their two huge victories over Hilbert and La Roche. Thomas was the main force behind a Wells offensive unit that scored 46 goals over their two games last week. Thomas had 10 of those goals, contributing to her team's success in which she's spent the majority of the year being featured heavily in the AMCC leaderboards. Thomas also recorded five assists to end the week with 15 total points. Thomas was a key contributor all over the field, as she also logged eight ground balls and six draw controls. 

Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): Mount Aloysius D Jordan Mason had a season-high 10 ground balls in the Mounties' win against Hilbert, as Mount Aloysius went 2-0 on the week. She also added five draw controls and five caused turnovers. Mason leads the team with 24 ground balls and is third with 12 caused turnovers. She ranks second in AMCC play in both categories.

Men's Track & Field (Track): PS-Behrend SR Aidan Domencic was victorious in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday, recording a time of 9:55.40 at the Westminster Invitational.

Men's Track & Field (Field): PS-Behrend SR Samuel Hetrick scored a first-place finish at Westminster with an AARTFC qualifying height of 6-4 ¾ in the high jump.

Women's Track & Field (Track): Carlow SR Molly Wagner led the Celtics with a fifth-place finish in the 200 with a time of 26.27, while also placing sixth in the 400 (1:02.36) and was part of the 4x100 relay team that finished 10th with a time of 53.47 as Carlow recorded six top-10 finishes at the Westminster College Invitational Saturday.

Women's Track & FIeld (Field): PS-Behrend SR Madison Kappeler was the top-finisher in the field for the Lions at the Westminster Invitational with a distance of 16-8 ½ in the long jump. She also placed eighth in the pole vault (10-5 1/4) and 10th in the 100m dash (13.18). Kappeler was a member of the 4x1 relay team that delivered a fourth-place time of 52.04.

Men's Tennis: PS-Altoona SO Nick Beard had a great week for the Lions, helping his team go 3-1 overall. He compiled a perfect 4-0 record in No. 3 singles matches, defeating his opponents from AMCC foes Mount Aloysius and Penn State Behrend and non-conference opponent Geneva. He also went 3-1 in No. 2 doubles matches.
