AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 18-24, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's volleyball, baseball, and tennis and women's softball and lacrosse for the period running from March 18-24, 2024.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Saint Vincent OH Shawn McSwiggen averaged 6.13 kills per set on a .351 hitting percentage, while also averaging 3.50 digs and totaling two blocks and three service aces, over the Bearcats' 2-0 week. His biggest performance came in Wednesday's five-set win over Penn State-Altoona, as he broke his own program record with 32 kills, while adding 12 digs for the double-double. Three days later, in a 3-0 shutout of Penn State-Behrend, McSwiggen led both sides with 17 kills, while adding 28 digs, two solo blocks and three service aces. For the week, McSwiggen averaged 6.8 points per set.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): Wells L Jacob Sehn had an outstanding week for an Express squad that played well above their normal defensive numbers. Sehn, in particular, nearly doubled his defensive production during the Express' two games this past week, logging 4.17 digs per set, almost two entire digs higher than his season average (2.63 D/S). He also impressed on many opposing serve attempts, as he only suffered one reception error in the 33 receptions he attempted, good for an impressive .970 reception percentage on the week. Coupled with his 25 total digs this past week, Sehn put forth a strong defensive week for the Express.

Softball (Player): La Roche INF Emma Bizay had a strong week for the Redhawks over the course of their four games. In Wednesday's split of a doubleheader against Bethany, in game one's loss, Bizay still pulled through with a 2-for-3 outing at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run scored, slugging 1.333. In the night cap victory against the Bison, Bizay was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. Bizay followed with a strong Saturday in a split with St. Vincent. In a 10-6 game one victory, Bizay went 1-for-3 at the dish, drew a walk and scored two more runs. In game two, Bizay hit a double and plated two more runs. For the week, Bizay hit .571 with a .625 OBP and .857 slugging percentage, adding four doubles, three RBI, seven runs scored and a pair of walks.

Softball (Pitcher): PS-Behrend SR Kayla Lindberg threw a six-hit shutout for her fourth win of the season in game two against Marietta yesterday. She fanned six in the complete game effort, as the Lions went on to win 6-0.

Baseball (Player): Pitt-Greensburg P/OF James Domer batted .563 with six out of nine of his hits going for extra bases for a 1.250 slugging percentage. He hit two home runs against Chatham in a Pitt-Greensburg comeback win, while also earning the win on the mound in that game. For the week, Domer scored nine runs while also recording eight RBI, three doubles, two home runs, a triple and one stolen base.

Baseball (Pitcher): PS-Behrend FR Colin Bolla secured his first win in his first collegiate start, tossing four shutout innings in a Behrend game one victory at Franciscan. He only surrendered three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): Wells M Logan Lomonaco had another week with impressive offensive numbers for the undefeated Wells College Express who cruised to a 22-0 win over Waynesburg, improving their record to 6-0 and are off to the best start to a season in Wells women's lacrosse history. Lomonaco, just one of many first year players for the Express, found the cage six more times in the win over the Yellow Jackets, also procuring two assists in the victory.

Women's Lacrosse (Defesive): Wells D Lexi Carfi had an excellent week for an Express defensive squad that recorded a shutout in their only action last week vs Waynesburg. She flew around on defense, causing two turnovers and securing three ground balls for Wells in a complete performance that saw them win 22-0 and cruise to a 6-0 start to the season, the best start in Wells women's lacrosse history. Carfi was at the core of the huge defensive effort, leading a staunch Express unit that caused 31 turnovers, and only allowed eight shots in the shutout vs the Yellow Jackets.

Men's Tennis: PS-Behrend JR Aidan Piazza only surrendered one set point over two matches to help the Lions pick up their first conference win of the season. He posted an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and went on to collect a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles.
