AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 4-10, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's volleyball and baseball and women's softball and lacrosse for the period running from March 4-10, 2024.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Saint Vincent RS Shawn McSwiggen recorded 29 kills on a .343 hitting percentage, while also totaling 20 digs and two blocks in Friday's five-set victory over Thiel. The 29 kills are tied for the fifth-most in a five-set match by a Division III player this season. McSwiggen would then go on to record eight kills, seven digs, and one block in a four-set loss to Arcadia on Saturday afternoon.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): Saint Vincent MH Rocco Marino totaled 15 blocks, along with 13 kills and four digs over the Bearcats' 2-1 weekend. In Friday's five-set marathon victory over Thiel, Marino recorded a career-high nine blocks (2 sol/7ast), the second-most in a match in Saint Vincent program history, and the third-most in a match by a Division III player this season. In Saturday's 3-1 loss to Arcadia, Marino went for six kills and five blocks, before closing the week with five kills and a block in a 3-0 win at Hood.

Softball (Player):  PS-Altoona UTIL Cameryn Feathers had a strong seven-game stretch during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic last week. In games against Bethany, Clark, Baruch, North Central, St. Joseph, and Emerson, she combined to hit .577 (15-for-26) with eight runs scored, eight RBI, three stolen bases, one double, and one home run leading the Lions to a 5-2 record.

Softball (Pitcher): PS-Altoona FR Josselyn Nau made six total appearances in the pitching circle last week in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, including making three starts. She posted a 4-0 record with three complete games, compiling a 1.84 ERA and a .97 WHIP. She pitched 26 2/3 innings and struck out 16.

Baseball (Player): PS-Altoona INF Corey Chamberlain had a strong finish to his week over the Lions' final seven games in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The junior posted four multi-hit games and finished the week with 17 total bases and five extra-base hits. In a total of seven games against Anna Maria, Calvin, Albion, Chatham, and Roger Williams, Chamberlain hit .526 (10-for-19) with nine walks, eight runs scored, six RBI, four doubles, and one home run. He had a .679 on-base percentage and slugged .895.

Baseball (Pitcher): La Roche SR Casey Jones had an strong week for the Redhawks on the hill, starting two games, coming out of both with a no decision. In Monday's matchup against Washington & Jefferson, Jones tossed seven strong innings, as he allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked two and fanned six. He followed that performance in the Redhawks' first game at the Ripken Experience on Sunday against Fredonia, picking up another no decision. Jones tossed six innings, allowing just one run, two hits, two walks and struck out 12 in the process. For the week, Jones threw 13 innings, allowed three runs (two earned) and set down 18 batters with just four walks.

Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): Wells M Logan Lomonaco had an excellent offensive game against Old Westbury. The first-year midfielder paced the Express with five goals and three assists in a dominant 14-1 victory over the Panthers. Lomonaco has had a strong start to the season, ranking high in many of the conference's offensive categories despite it being only her first season in a college uniform. Lomonaco currently sits at third in the AMCC for goals scored with 10. She also ranks first in the conference for assists with six. Her personal success is translating to great team success as the Express are out to a 3-0 start this season, outscoring opponents 57-6 in their first three matchups.

Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): La Roche D/GK Juliana Hornikel had another strong week for the Redhawks who went 1-1. In Thursday's win over Waynesburg, Hornikel made eight saves in goal, adding five ground balls and a caused turnover. She followed that performance on Saturday against Westminster making 10 saves, collecting one ground ball and causing two turnovers.
