AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR FEBRUARY 12-18, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, track & field, and men's volleyball for the period running from February 12-18, 2024.

Women's Basketball: La Roche G Machia Hairston ended the season with another pair of quality performances, helping lead La Roche to a 2-0 mark and second consecutive perfect AMCC regular season. In Wednesday's 90-48 victory over Carlow, Hairston put together a stat line of 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. She followed that outing in Saturday's 89-64 victory over Penn State Altoona with 19 points, 14 rebounds (10 offensive), five more assists, a steal and a block. For the week, she averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Men's Basketball: La Roche G Joe Starzynski had a fantastic final week of the regular season as La Roche clinched the top seed in the AMCC Tournament and a share of the regular season championship. In Wednesday's 76-64 victory over Carlow, Starzynski put together a line of 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal, extending the Redhawks winning streak to 13. On Saturday, despite being defeated by Penn State Altoona, Starzynski penciled in a double-double to the stat sheet with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while also chipping in a pair of steals and three blocks on the defensive end. For the week, Starzynski averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

Women's Track & Field (Track): Carlow SR Molly Wagner led the way for the Celtics with three first place finishes in the 60 (8.03), 200 (26.88) and as part of the 4x400 relay team that included Ella Cloak, Christina Smith and Laci Schwirian. The relay team finished with a time of 4:38.03.

Women's Track & Field (Field): Carlow FR Sydney Taylor's first place leap of 10.42 meters in triple jump was a personal best for the first-year athlete, while she also landed a personal best 4.72 meters in long jump to place third in the event at the Muskingum University Muskie Meet.

Men's Track & Field (Track): Alfred State FR Mekhi Christensen notched a win in the 60-meter dash, after running a 6.95. With that time, he set a new school record and became an AARTFC qualifier. He would claim eighth place in the 200-meter run with a time of 23.29 at the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up.

Men's Track & Field (Field): PS-Behrend SR Sam Hetrick recorded the top finish in the field for the Lions at Ashland, jumping 6-0 ¾ in the high jump for first place.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Hilbert OH Brad Converse held strong for the Hawks all week long putting up 37 total kills, hitting .250 with 80 receptions, 19 digs, two assists and a block.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Behrend MH Lewis Rhodes tallied 13 blocks on the weekend (2.17 per set) to help the Lions go 1-1 on Saturday. He tallied six blocks, three kills and one ace in a 3-0 win against Buffalo State and then added seven blocks vs. Trine.
