AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR JANUARY 22-28, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, swimming & diving, track & field, and men's wrestling and volleyball for the period running from January 22-28, 2024.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Altoona OH Avery Farabaugh spearheaded the Lions' offense in a tri-match split with non-conference opponents Wilkes and Manhattanville on Saturday in Wilkes-Barre. In Penn State Altoona's 3-0 loss to host Wilkes, the senior totaled 15 points on 13 kills, two block assists, and a solo block. After that, he recorded 21 points on 17 kills, two service aces, two block assists, and a solo block in his team's 3-1 victory over Manhattanville. On the week, Farabaugh had 36 points (5.1 points per set), 30 kills (4.29 kills per set), and posted a .279 attack percentage.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): Geneva MB Carter Milroy had a big role defensively in helping Geneva to a 4-1 week, including a third-place finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Invitational. He finished the week with 27 blocks (1.35 b/s), including a season-best eight blocks against Carolina. He also added 25 digs (1.25 d/s) and 37 kills (1.85 k/s).

Women's Basketball: PS-Behrend G Morgan Altavilla shot 62.5 percent from the floor, averaging 28.5 points per game in a pair of AMCC wins this week. She went 15-for-22 against Mt. Aloysius for a new career-high 36 points. She also added nine assists and four steals against the Mounties. Altavilla also averaged 8.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals on the week.

Men's Basketball: PS-Altoona F Dwayne Jones was the Lions' high scorer in a 2-0 week of AMCC play. In Wednesday night's home win over Pitt-Greensburg, the junior finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. He followed that up with another strong game in Saturday's home victory over Wells, matching his career-high in points with 28 to go along with eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. On the week, Jones averaged 26.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, 2.0 steals per game, and 2.0 blocks per game. He shot an impressive 62.9 percent from the floor and also connected on 44.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

Men's Wrestling: Penn College FR Travis Green went 3-0 at 165 pounds for the Wildcats at the John Reese Duals on Sunday, pushing his team-leading wins total to 32-13 in his freshman campaign. Green collected two first-period falls over Ayden DeForest (Oneonta) and Trevor DuBoff (Wilkes) before closing out an impressive day by upsetting Konrad Parker (Ithaca), 9-6. Parker, ranked third in the latest Northeast Region poll tech falled Green during the first weekend of the season before Green flipped the script on Sunday.

Women's Swimming: PS-Behrend FR Camryn Watters had a hand in five meters records being broken at Nazareth on Saturday. She set two records in relays, while winning the 100 backstroke in a record time of 1:09.11 and then set the 50 backstroke record in the lead off for the 200 medley relay (33.18).

Women's Diving: Alfred State FR Haleena Reygers finished with a score of 190.80 for 16th place in her first 11 dive meet.

Men's Swimming: PS-Behrend FR Glenn Fowkes was the lone winner vs. Gannon, touching first in the 100 backstroke (54.27) and then setting three meters team records vs. Nazareth on Saturday. Fowkes set the record by winning the 100 backstroke (1:00.26), 200 backstroke (2:14.84) and swimming in the winning and record breaking 200 medley relay (1:50.16).

Men's Diving: Alfred State SO Conor Compton won both boards at the Dick Comanzo Diving Invite, scoring 509.9 on the 1m board and a 537.6 on the 3m.

Women's Track & Field (Track): Carlow SR Molly Wagner earned another top-10 spot with a sixth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.14. She ran 8.13 in the preliminaries and finished 14th in the 200 with a time of 27.45. The 4x200 relay team, which Wagner was a part of, placed fourth with a time of 1:56.18. 

Women's Track & Field (Field): PS-Behrend SR Maddison Kappeler placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 10-5 ½. She was also a member of the 4x2 relay team notched a second-place finish with a time of 1:52.56.

Men's Track & Field (Track): PS-Behrend FR Jake Egizio crossed the finish line in 22.74 for a second-place finish in the 200 dash. He was also a member of the 4x2 relay team that was victorious with a time of 1:33.71 at Mount Union Saturday.

Men's Track & Field (Field): PS-Behrend SR Samuel Hetrick tallied a runner-up score of 6-5 ½ in the high jump at the Jim Wuske Invitational.
