
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, swimming & diving, and women's volleyball for the period running from October 18-24, 2021.
Women's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Behrend OH Brooke Joncas had double-digit kills in two of the three matches this week, totaling 32 kills and a .394 attack percentage. She tallied 11 kills vs. Alfred State and 13 in a 3-0 win over Hiram. Joncas also added 10 digs, seven service aces and three blocks. Joncas' play helped lift the Lions over second place Alfred State to put a stronger hold on the top spot in the conference.
Women's Volleyball (Defensive): Pitt-Bradford L Kayla Maslowski collected 28 digs in two three-set victories for the Panthers last week. She had 16 in the midweek win over Medaille, and 12 more against Pitt-Greensburg. She also had two assists and three service aces against Pitt-Greensburg.
Women's Soccer (Offensive): Mount Aloysius F Kourtney Walls scored three goals in a 2-0 week for the Mounties. She tallied seven total points in adding a assist. Walls scored the game-winning goal against La Roche, in a 2-1 win on Wednesday. She then added two goals in Saturday's senior day win against Medaille. Walls is in the AMCC Top Five in every major offensive category.
Women's Soccer (Defensive): Mount Aloysius GK Lauren Davey only allowed one goal in a two win week, earning two conference victories. Davey is in the top five in the AMCC in all statistical categories. Additionally, Davey scored her first career goal in a shutout against Medaille.
Men's Soccer (Offensive): Pitt-Bradford M/F Chase Rider added three more goals to his record in a 1-1 week for the Panthers. Rider scored one goal in the 4-2 loss at Medaille, and added two more, including the game-winner, against Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. Rider took five shots on the week and put four of them on target.
Men's Soccer (Defensive): PS-Behrend M Andrew Cassano was instrumental in keeping two clean sheets this past week with solid play on the back end as the Lions picked up two shut-out conference victories. The solid defensive play resulted in just three shots on goal by opponents which included limiting Hilbert to just a single shot on target. Behrend earned a 1-0 victory over Alfred State mid-week, before picking up the 4-0 victory over Hilbert on Saturday.
Women's Swimming: PS-Behrend SR Marcella Puglia tallied a pair of individual wins on Saturday at Westminster. She recorded her first win in the 200 free (2:03.94) and then touched first in the 500 free (5:38.20), while missing first in the 100 free by .04 seconds.
Women's Diving: PS-Behrend SO Julia Sank was second on the one-meter (141.00) and on the three-meter board (107.11) on Saturday at Wesminster in her first outing of the season.
Men's Swimming: PS-Behrend GR Jake Schmidt hand a hand in four first-place finishes to help the Lions come from behind to defeat Westminster. The graduate student was first in the 1000 free (10:32.10), the 500 free (5:09.77) and the 100 free (48.91), while swimming a leg on the winning 200 free relay.
