STEGMEIER, GILLESPIE NAMED 2021 FAR AWARD WINNERS; ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM ANNOUNCED

The Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) around the AMCC have voted on and selected the 2020 FAR Award Winners. On the men's side is Penn State Altoona's Jimmy Gillespie while Hilbert College's Brianna Stegmeier represents the women's side. Gillespie and Stegmeier were chosen from among 18 outstanding student-athletes named to the AMCC All-Academic Team, earning the prestigious honor after a successful four years in the classroom, in the community, and in their respective sport. 

Gillespie was a dual-sport student-athlete, participating on both the men's golf and tennis teams for the Lions. In golf, he was a three-time AMCC all-conference selection, including being a second team honoree in 2020-21. He helped lead his team to back-to-back AMCC runner-up finishes in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He earned four top-10 individual finishes during the 2020-21 season, while ranking third on the team and seventh in the AMCC in scoring average (81.57). As a member of the men's tennis team, he recorded a win in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles this spring. In the classroom, Gillespie was an accounting major, graduating in May 2021 with a 3.83 GPA. He was a member of the Sheetz Fellows program, the Penn State Altoona Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and organized a "Day of Giving Back" for Martin Luther King Day in 2019-20. Gillespie was the 2021 Penn State Altoona Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while also earning AMCC Academic All-Conference and Peak Performer honors.

Stegmeier, a member of the Hilbert women's soccer and lacrosse teams, was also a dual-sport student-athlete. She served as the soccer team captain from 2019 through 2021, logging 2514:41 minutes in goal. She ranks No. 2 in Hilbert's all-time list with 9.58 saves per game. She was named the Hero Sports Defender of the Week (Oct. 2018), was named the 2018 team MVP, and earned the 2021 Coaches Award. Stegmeier was a three-year starter on the women's lacrosse team, serving as team captain in 2020-21. The midfielder scored six goals and recorded one assist with 27 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers in 28 games. Stegmeier graduated in May 2021 with a 3.9825 GPA in Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation. She was a member of the Dean's List, the Hilbert College Blue and White Society, Chi Alpha Sigma national honor society, and a four-time recipient of the AMCC Academic All-Conference and Peak Performer honors. Stegmeier was a four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, including stints as the vice president, treasurer, and promotions and marketing coordinator.
